Debate / Re: Dick Cheney supports gay marriage

I wonder if he held that opinion before he found out his daughter was a lesbian.

It's a better position than what Obama holds, but not quite as good as I'd like to see, considering I support federal intervention into this matter.

Or you could vote for the candidate you think is best regardless of party, since purposely voting 3rd party isn't much better than voting for the main parties. Then again, I hate the party system - so purposely voting for any particular party just because it's that party, or it's not another party just seems like a voting sin to me.

Twenty is just a stepping stone to 21. Congratulations on getting one year closer to fully fledged adulthood, though. ;D

Debate / Re: Can we withdraw from Iraq?
« on: April 28, 2009, 11:15:00 pm »

Is Iraq really ready to protect itself without direct American military support?

I have to wonder where you're getting your information from, as a February 23 article from this year has stated insurgent violence has hit an all time low since 2003. See source:http://www.army.com/news/item/4857

Has the violence risen that dramatically since then?

In all honesty, I think the sooner we can withdraw, the better. Prolonged military presence past a point where we're needed isn't likely to help matters. It'll probably end up being a sink or swim situation for Iraq no matter when we leave.

Also, an interesting thing to note, while violence has been decreasing in Iraq, the violence in Afghanistan has been increasing, despite the increase in soldiers. I get the feeling that this whole "War on Terror" thing is just a endless game of cat and mouse that no one will ever win.

Right wing / Re: I'm Not a Liberal: My Conversation with a Quacko

Do either of you think I lost the argument? I can't shake the feeling that I did.

How do you argue with an appeal to emotion? While I wouldn't agree that nature intended for us to do anything, we are an industrious and creative species - it's in our nature. We do what we can to get by, and that includes eating a diet of varied plant and animal sources. I'd say you came off looking like you actually know what you're talking about.

A social liberal and fiscal moderate, perhaps? I'm never good at judging a person's political philosophy, I just go by the issue at hand.

The moderate politicians are out there - they just get torn down and demonized until they finally give in and join the rest of the pigs in the mud pit. Few people want to listen to moderates. I honestly can't think of a way to fix the polarization. Any attempt to speak out usually doesn't end well.

Guten Tag, I'm Schizo, your local, not-always-friendly, voice of reason. I was invited over from the [AS] message boards, like everyone else, but I'm more of a lurker there, so few have actually seen my posts. If they have, they probably didn't like them, because I don't hold back when it comes to dissent. In my defense, though, I try to be polite about it.

 I promise to play nice.
