Good, when are politicians going to learn it's not within their privilege to sexually harass and assault people.

They'll learn when they have to suffer for it. As long as they continue to get away with it, they will not learn. Gaius knows why I think scandals are so prevalent in politics.

And Sandy... That needs a question mark, even though it's rhetorical.

Disgraced former state Sen. James Marzilli is reportedly in talks with Middlesex District Attorney Gerard Leone Jr.’s office to plea out to charges he sexually harassed four women in Lowell one day last June.

The married Arlington Democrat, 50, was to go to trial last week on charges of attempting to commit a crime, accosting a person of the opposite sex, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, but that appearance was canceled and a status conference was set up for April 28 in Lowell Superior Court.

Marzilli’s defense attorney Terrence Kennedy said, “There’s no plea on the table right now.” He said the only reason his client’s trial was postponed was because Kennedy has overseas travel plans.

“Right now, we’re on a trial track,” Kennedy said. “I haven’t asked for anything, Jim Marzilli hasn’t asked for anything.”

A memorandum filed in the case by Leone’s office “in anticipation of possible sentencing” suggests Marzilli has indicated a willingness to plead guilty to sufficient facts - meaning he acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence against him for a jury to find him guilty without actually admitting he committed the crimes.

Leone’s office wants Marzilli to serve no less than one year in a house of correction, followed by four years’ probation, during which he would be monitored by a GPS bracelet.

Kennedy said a year in jail is “completely unacceptable.”

Prosecutors are further insisting Marzilli, who resigned his Senate seat last fall, complete sex offender treatment and counseling and work 400 hours of community service.

Marzilli is accused of approaching the alleged victims on June 3 while in Lowell as a senator to attend a company’s open house. He allegedly told one woman waiting for her son to get off a bus he loved her, then murmured, “The sex is sweet, the sex is sweet, you want it and you want to go with me.”

The ex-pol is alleged to have told another woman a half-hour later, “Your butt is so perfect.” Less than two hours later, he allegedly eyeballed a disabled elderly woman walking with a cane, then asked her if she was wearing underwear.

It’s alleged he later grabbed at a fourth woman’s crotch as she sat on a bench, telling her “you are a very beautiful woman” and questioning her about her personal hygiene.

Marzilli, who had no prior criminal record, was arrested by Lowell police after an alleged foot pursuit. His lawyer said Marzilli suffers from bipolar disorder.
